OUTLOOK: Wyoming
is school trying to catch some respect. It has opened a season with 3 defending
national champions, prior to Tennessee, so don't expect them to be intimidated.
The Cowboy's return there starting quarterback and top four receiver's
off one of the nation's most sound passing attacks. They also return a
solid runner in Tim Beasley. The Offensive line is the major question of
the team. The defense returns 8 starter's back from a unit that had some
impressive game's including a shut out of Georgia in the last three quarters. |
Tim Beasley #7 RB |
PREDICTION: With
all of Tennessee still hyped over last season the Vols will have there
mind on this season. Using the strong running of Jamal Lewis and scrambling
of Tee Martin, Tennessee will take a comanding early lead. The defense
will feed off the offense's energy and pitch a shut out the first half.
Martin will show off his arm in the second half finding a few open receiver's
down field. Look for a big play from Donte Stallworth in the open field.

OUTLOOK:
Florida will be looking to rebuild one of the nation's best defenses from
a year ago, from which it lost 9 starters. Look for a very aggressive defense
once again though. The offense will be better then last year's even without
a solid running back. The receiving corps should be the strengh of the
offense. With a young defense and a powerful offense expect high scoring
games in Gainsville this year. If the defense can come together and become
a stingy unit, the Gator's will be very hard for anybody to keep
up with. Florida will also feature one of the nation's strongest return
game's led by All American sprinter John Capel. |
TravisTaylor #19 WR |
PREDICTION: Tennessee
will set the tone of the game with there defense, making big plays and
turning them into points. The Gator defense will hold Tennessee down pretty
good for most of the game, controlling Tennessee's ground attack.
With Florida stopping the run, Tee Martin will complete a few long
bombs over the middle to loosen the Gator's up. With the Vols holding the
lead late in the 2nd half the VOl defense will come up big in the clutch,
blitzing for a few sacks.

OUTLOOK:
Coming off a 2 - 9 record there is not really a bright spot to look at.
TheTiger's do return there leading passer, receiver, and rusher,
which is a good place to start. Both offensive and defensive lines are
a major concern, along with the consistency of the kicking game.
The schedule of the Tiger's doesn't help anything, with 4 of its
first 5 games being bowl teams last season. If the young Tiger defense
can come along the offense should be able to produce enough points to survive
in Conference USA. |
Gerard Arnold RB |
PREDICTION: The Coaches
shouldn't have to do much to get The Vols pumped for this one besides recall
the Memphis game in 1996 which saw the Tiger's upset heavily favored Tennessee
by 4 points. The Vols will manhandle the Tigers on both sides of the ball.
Tee Martin will have a huge day throwing the football with Memphis stacking
the line desperately trying to stop the run. The defense will also show
no mercy coming with revenge in there eyes from 96.

OUTLOOK:
New head coach Tommy Tuberville will look to restore the Auburn running
game which has been non-exixtent the last 2 year's. The passing game will
also need some polishing if the Tiger's expect to win in the SEC. A strong
defense will carry the Tiger's all year. Jimmy Brumbaugh, an All-SEC defensive
tackle from 2 year's ago, will be back to lead the hard-hitting Auburn
D. In quarterback Gabe Gross, the Tiger's have a hard-nosed kid who will
do anything to win. If the offense develops Gross's same attitude the Tiger's
will compete in the West. |
Demontray Carter #1 RB |
PREDICTION: With skeptics
wanting the Vols to prove they are the best team in the country, Tennessee
will be average. The offense will struggle throughout the first half
but will consistently bang Lewis, Henry, and Stephens through the line,
wearing down the Tiger defense. The Vols will make a comeback in the second
half led by Tee Martin, Cedrick Wilson, and a very aggressive defense.
The Tiger's will be shut out the second half. Look for linebacker's Thompson
and Westmoreland to have monster games. VOLS 24 -

OUTLOOK:
Th eTide will be out to regain its traditional power in the SEC West this
year. Returning 17 starter's will not hurt the cause. The offense will
be led by Shaun Alexander at running back who will be in the race for the
Heisman Trophy. The Tide must find a go-to wide receiver though to keep
teams from stacking the line against the run. Andrew Zow returns at quarterback
and will look to throw the ball more effectively this season. The Tide
will have a very good defense this year, like always, led by Travis Carroll
and Kenny Smith. Head Coach Mike Dubose has already claimed his feelings
toward Alexander winning the Heisman so look for the Tide to run, run,
run, if they can develop and offensive line. |
Shaun Alexander #37 RB |
PREDICTION:
In the Vols closest game of the regular season, Bama will come into the
game a top 10 team, 5 - 1 or 6 - 0. Feeding off the crowd noise Alabama
will take a 14 - 10 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half
will be a gut check for the Vols and Jamal Lewis will have a fine gut by
proving he is the Heisman contender by out rushing Alexander in the 2nd
half. Martin will also pick it up, finding open receiver's down the stretch.
Look for a few big forced turnover's by the defense late in the 2nd half.

OUTLOOK:
New head coach Lou Holtz will bring a great legacy to team, he hopes he
can install into the SC program now. There will not be a set quarterback
troughout the year but whoever it is will have a hard-to-tackle running
back to hand it off to in Boo Williams. The receiving corps is the strong-point
of team featuring Jermale Kelley and Zola Davis. If SC can find somebody
to throw the ball to they can compete with almost anybody in the league.
The defense will be young and vulnerable, led by safety Arturo Freeman. |
Head Coach Lou Holtz |
PREDICTION: The
Vols will come out focused and pour it on the under-manned Gamecocks. Look
for big games out of all three running backs. Defensive tackles John Henderson
and Darwin Walker will dominate the trenches. Watch out for an interception
return for a TD by Dwayne Goodrich or Deon Grant.

OUTLOOK:
Bob Davie has recruited the talent to get Notre Dame back on top of the
college football world. The 99' squad will return a steady amount of starters.
The strenghs of the team appear to be the solid play of quarterback Jarious
Jackson and the defensive line. Count on Notre Dame running the ball with
a solid offensive line and a smart QB. Finding a running back to replace
Autrey Denson and filling holes in the secondary and at linebacker will
determine how far this team goes. If those holes are filled then the Irish
will have a excellent chance of regaining its past excellence. |
Jarious Jackson #7 QB |
PREDICTION:
In one of the best settings of the college football season these two great
traditions will battle all day. Do not be suprised if Notre Dame leads
at halftime. I feel the quickness of the Vol defense will outlast Notre
Dame to the end. Look for Jamal Lewis to pick up the slack for the offense,
running wild on emotion in the second half. VOLS 31-17 |

OUTLOOK: The
Hogs return nearly all of there skill position players on offense including
quarterback Clint Stoerner and wide receiver Anthony Lucas. The defense
seems to be in good shape once again only losing three starters. Look for
the Razorback defense to be very agressive this year trying to force turnovers.
The big question for this team is who will be the men to step and play
solid in the offensive line. Arkansas has one starter returning from last
years O-Line and must develop some good players in the trenches if it wants
to use its big-play capability running and throwing the ball. |
Clint Stoerner #14 QB |
PREDICTION:
Arkansas will give the Vols all they want the first half, making big plays.
Tennessee will match Arkansas play for play though and the two teams will
be tied 10 - 10 at the half. Tennessee will show its power in the second
half, showcasing the running abilities of Lewis, Henry, Stephens, and
Martin. The defense will make big stop after big stop, keeping the Razorback's
out of the endzone.

OUTLOOK:
With the loss of superstar QB Tim Couch, the wildcat offense will not be
quiet as explosive. Look for a good running game ,if the O-Line can develop,
led by Derek Homer and Anthony White. Hal Mumme with definitley take some
gambles this year in different situations because he will not have the
great offense to lean on as much. The defense should be about the same.
If they develop better tackling skills and show a bigger will to win the
defense could be a stingy unit led by defensive tackle Dennis Johnson.
Also look for Quentin McCord to become the Wildcat's main receiver. |
Anthony White #32 RB |
PREDICTION:
Tennessee will win with defense on this Saturday shutting down Kentucky
all day. Kentucky of course will score a few point but will not come close
to matching the fire-power of the Vols offense led by Tee Martin. When
Leonard Scott takes the 2nd half kickoff back for a TD the game will be
